The Greek Government has provided important tax incentives to private individuals (high-net-worth individuals, pensioners, and Greeks living abroad) to transfer their tax residency in Greece. We have successfully advised clients in their relocation to Greece.
In order for a prospective applicant to be eligible, they must cumulatively: a) not have the status of being a Greek tax resident for the previous five of the last six years before the transfer of their tax residence to Greece; b) relocate from an EU/EEA country, or a country with which Greece has a valid agreement concerning administrative cooperation on tax issues; c) provide employment services locally to a Greek legal entity or to a Greek branch of a foreign company; and; d) declare that they intend to stay in Greece for a minimum of two years.
In that case, the applicant becomes exempt from paying income tax and solidarity tax on 50% of their Greek source employment income or freelancer income.
Indicatively, we offer the following services in relation to submission to Special Tax Regimes:
- Obtention of Greek Tax Identification Number;
- Advice and assistance in gathering the required documentation;
- Submission of relevant application before the Greek tax authorities which shall be no later than 31 March of the fiscal year concerned for the Alternate Tax Regime for individuals with foreign pension income and 31 July of the fiscal year concerned for the Tax Break for relocating to Greece;
- Advice on structuring the relevant investment as and if required.
